Minnesota, known in the US as “Medical Alley†and home to many of the world’s leading healthcare companies, is a fitting backdrop for MD&M Midwest, the Midwest’s largest annual end-to-end medical design and manufacturing event. Across two days (21-22 October), engineers, executives, R&D teams and supply chain leaders will convene at the Minneapolis Convention Center to explore innovations in medtech, automation, design, plastics and packaging.
Previously, sectors such as medtech, plastics, automation and packaging were addressed in separate shows, but this year’s event unites them under one umbrella. This enables participants to see how improvements in one corner (such as a new polymer extrusion process) can influence others (component packaging, device assembly, or system automation).
Trends to look out for at MD&M Midwest 2025
Smart manufacturing and automation are pivotal to the future of medical technology. Robotics, digital twins, sensors and closed-loop control systems are supporting flexibility and scalability in both medical device and consumer manufacturing pipelines. Materials innovation and sustainability are also hot topics, including the demand for biocompatibility, corrosion resistance, miniaturisation, and a lower carbon footprint.
This year’s two-day educational event brings together medical manufacturers, industry experts, thought leaders, and academics to discuss challenges in medical technology, including digital health, robotics, 3D printing and additive manufacturing. In particular, the Midwest Manufacturing Leadership Summit (October 22) is aimed at senior executives, offering discussion forums on strategy, sustainability and the future of manufacturing.
The 2025 Keynote series, open to all attendees, will feature several headline talks that set the tone for the show, including Advancing Electrophysiology: The Science and Evolution of Pulsed Field Ablation, Empowering Manufacturing Through Automation & Robotics: Seizing Disruption, Beyond Reshoring and Tariffs: What Companies Are Doing Now, and Let’s Break a Leg: Improving 3D-Printed Prosthetics.
With a Startup Showcase zone added this year, the MD&M Midwest 2025 is also making space for emerging players to challenge incumbents and accelerate adoption of niche breakthroughs. Meanwhile, the Demo Zone will host live, 30-minute product demonstrations that let you see new tools and systems in action.
Meet Alleima
This year, MD&M Midwest will host more than 575 exhibitors. Among these companies is Alleima, an industry leader in advanced materials technology and sustainability, specialising in high-performance alloys, complex wire-based solutions, surface treatments, laser and nitinol processing.
Collaborating closely with leading global medical device OEMs, Alleima’s specialist engineers lend their extensive materials expertise to the design and manufacture of intricate wire-based components used in life-changing technologies, from pacemakers and cochlear implants to neurostimulators, ablation catheters and advanced guidewires.
Their capabilities also extend to the development of flexible, high-strength instruments for robotic and minimally invasive surgery, ensuring these tools deliver both the dexterity and durability required to meet the most demanding clinical environments.
In addition to collaborating with established medical device manufacturers, Alleima is actively partnering with innovative startups striving to navigate the technical and logistical complexities of the medtech landscape. Alleima provides technical competence, precision manufacturing capabilities and production capacity to reduce lead times, accelerate design iterations, and improve operational outcomes, all while staying on top of the relevant regulations.
